Ilves – Swedish design for Nordic winter living
Ilves is a Swedish footwear brand that combines function, style, and comfort for cold days. The boots are lined with wool or sheepskin to keep your feet pleasantly warm whether you're out on a winter walk in the city or taking a trip to the countryside. Most models feature the modern OC anti-slip system with built-in fold-out spikes, which can easily be flipped in or out. In snowy, icy or slippery conditions, the OC system provides instant, stable grip. The outsole, made by the renowned Italian sole manufacturer Alpi, is lightweight, slip-resistant, and insulates against ground cold. Ilves boots are designed in Sweden and manufactured in Portugal, in a factory where craftsmanship, quality and sustainability are at the core.
Manufacturing in Portugal
Ilves boots and shoes are made at a family-owned factory with around 100 employees and a long-standing tradition of shoemaking. Equipped with state-of-the-art technologies, the factory ensures high quality throughout the production process, which takes place in modern facilities where craftsmanship is combined with mechanized processes. Today, the factory is run by the third generation of the family, and there is a strong focus on reducing environmental impact. Solar panels have been installed, and all waste is sorted, recycled, or responsibly managed.
The factory complies with both national and European environmental regulations and has undergone a SMETA audit, a globally recognized standard that ensures working conditions, environmental practices, and ethical guidelines are upheld throughout production and the supply chain.
Materials with care
The leather used in Ilves boots and shoes comes from Portugal and Italy. Both the leather and the sheepskin lining are certified by the Leather Working Group (LWG), an environmental certification for tanneries that ensures suppliers follow strict guidelines for sustainable tanning. This includes using vegetable tanning methods instead of chrome. The sheepskin and wool used in the inner lining are mulesing-free.
A number of Ilves boots are equipped with a water-resistant membrane that is breathable and moisture-wicking. The membrane is PFAS-free and made from 100% PU (polyurethane).
